He squeezes her hand back, the other one coming up to cradle her head against him. "I did it to save you." And that's true. There are other reasons, but his love for her would have outlasted those. As gut-wrenchingly awful as the fall out with Vanessa has been, at least she's alive to resist him. At least she's still her.
