She can bitch about wanting a quiet life all she wants, but she doesn't believe her own words. She doesn't think anyone who even sort of knows her would believe it.

Shepard has seen what is out there, what can happen to people. She's seen indoctrination up close and personal. Sure, maybe that's not the kett's thing, but it's something. It's similar. It's genetic goo building up a new person. She can't let that go.
