He's been resisting my requests for Imperial aid. [ he sounds calm and dignified, but the frustration is clear through the Force ]

I thought sending a friendly face may persuade him. [ Caedus smiles ] I imagine changing an old man's mind won't prove too difficult for my apprentice, will it?

[There's a minute twitching of her lips at that. She supposes that Jaina owes her uncle a little loyalty, and it's not like Luke is particularly terrible, but they don't mesh. He's no Kota.] I am pretty sure all Skywalker wants out of me is the chance to learn more about his father, but I'm not exactly sure he'd want to hear the truth from me. [A beat.] Durron's interesting, though.

[ if she was drinking something, she would have choked on it ]

You don't waste anytime jumping into controversy, do you?

[Seph smiles softly, both at the way she leans into him and the way she teases him. Like that wall that had been built up between them has all but crumbled down. There's not much else left in this world that can drive another wedge between them.

Or so he hopes. He ignores the craving for the flame, and he ignores the fact that none of them are out of the woods yet.

That's a problem for another moment.] If it does, you do know that I could take care of it. Whatever it is.

[Her eyebrows shoot up.]

My existence is a controversy already, don't you think?

[Tahiri slides off the bed then, and picks her clothes off from the floor. What she needs is a shower, but she can do that on the way to Pellaeon. So she slips her clothes on slowly, letting his frustration wash over her, ground her.]

It shouldn't. [She agrees softly, running her fingers through her hair.] I will secure the aid we need.

I guess. But Durron's. [ well, he's Durron. Jaina sighs, she understands his appeal to someone like Galen, warped as it is. ] Just think about taking Luke up on his offer first. Or Mara. Or Saba.

[ Caedus turns to look at her finally, taking a few steps over to where she stands. He towers over her, and not for the first time he marvels at just how small the girl who had ensnared his brother so is ]

I anticipate nothing but success.

[ and, because he knows this way is easiest, and most efficient and perhaps even a little indulgent on his part, he trails his fingers under her chin, tilting her face up to his ]

It is beyond valuable to have someone I can trust.

Are you also going to lecture me about any associations with the terrible Kyp Durron, too? Because I'm still undecided about whether that makes me want to seek him out more or not. [There's a hint of amusement in her voice.] I'll think about it, but honestly, not even Durron is close to understanding what I know about the Force.

[ she laughs at that, stretching out her legs ] Not unless I want to be a raging hypocrite- he's my former Master.

[ that gets an interested look from Jaina ] Vader have a theory course in his curriculum?

From what I remember of my studies, Jedi are raging hypocrites. [Fact or Vader!fact? She isn't sure anymore.

Galen leans forward, placing her elbows on her knees.] Not exactly, but I spent my entire life in the dark side of the Force. Feeding off my hate and anger and fear, and I'm not going to say that being on the other side is easy, but I don't see myself feeling the urge to kill for fun. [She glances at Jaina.] I don't fear what the dark side has to hold.

[She makes a noise that's sort of a sigh, but more like something mock-resigned.]

A magical umbrella, huh? [She wriggles her feet, poking her toes together. Maddie knows he's more than capable, but it doesn't mean she'll jump on it. It's such a small task compared to what he's done in the past, but she can't easily forget the toll all of that took on him either.] Let's just - leave all that out of it, if we can. I don't mind a little drizzle. [A beat.] Thunderstorms would be a different story.

[But the sky's pretty clear, so she'll hope if it does rain, it is only a drizzle at worst. In the meantime she just wants to appreciate Seph without anything else magical happening at the same time. Without anything related to what's waiting for them once they're back in Trinity.]

[Tahiri looks back up at Caedus, not wanting to seem weak or small in some way, but it's hard to not feel that way with him. To feel powerless in comparison.

His skin is warm, fingers calloused, and she hates that she likes the way they feel as he tilts her chin up.]

You have no reason to doubt me, master. [A beat.] But I want to see Anakin.

A little drizzle could still drown us out. [Seph squints up at the sky, scoping it out, but he knows that she's a little hesitant. He can't blame her. He can't blame anyone for that but himself, he guesses.] I don't see anything, so I'm sure we're good.

[He tilts his head, brushing his lips across her temple. And then her cheek, because why not. They're alone, together, and for now, nothing is wrong in the world.]

It wouldn't drown us out too bad. And it might be kind of fun to dance in the rain. [She almost doesn't suggest it, but it sort of slips out anyway.]

[And then she's smiling despite herself when she feels his lips over her temple, her cheek. It's such a small gesture, but it's nice, it's calming, and it sort of reminds her of everything about Seph she tried to ignore, that she doesn't have to anymore. She missed him a lot more than she was comfortable with. Her hand wriggles around, looking for his free one and taking it easily but gently in response.]

[ Jaina shrugs ] Jedi are regular people. And regular people are hypocrites occasionally. [ Force, she hopes Galen isn't going to spew some moral obligatory fodder about how being a Jedi means being a symbol of light and anchor for morality...she already had brunch with Jacen today ]

[ she frowns at that ] Maybe it's not about fear of the dark side. It's the idea of being unchecked and unguarded. You lose perspective that way. [ Jaina shrugs, assuming that if Galen knows about Anakin, she knows something of Hapes ] I don't regret it. And I'd use it if it's the only available option to seeing the means to an end. But it's not the complete answer to things, either.

[ the request doesn't surprise him, but Caedus takes his time in answering, in making it seem like he's unsure of what his reply will be. If Tahiri is to be his successor- and, by extension, the one chosen to strike him down- he needs to know that she can master disappointment. The unknown. Anxiety. The galaxy has much to offer in all of those areas. ]

Your past attempts at changing Myrkr have failed, Tahiri. What is going to make this one special?

[ the first lesson for any apprentice: how do you learn from inadequacy?]

It'd be nice if some of them remembered that every now and then. [Not that her overall experience has led her to believe that they are the same Order that the Emperor and Darth Vader had destroyed, but some of them... Some of them made her roll her eyes.

Morality doesn't really have much place in Galen's life, all things considered.]

Why should the dark side leave you more unchecked and unguarded? [A beat.] I can understand what you mean, but it's all part of the Force. It's what you do with it, how you use it, who you are that dictates where you fall on this imaginary line. [She glances at Jaina, thinking that over.] Good. Don't regret it. You shouldn't have to.

[A visible tremble runs through her, but not fear or disappointment. Anger. He's been resisting her requests more and more lately, this master of hers. Taking her away from the one thing even worth living for anymore. The one, solitary need she has in her life.

Her lips part, but she doesn't answer immediately. She has to think, she has to be clever, because that's what Caedus wants from her. He wants her to be more, and she wants to be his apprentice.

It's the only way to have Anakin again.] The knowledge of my past attempts. Knowledge is earned, isn't it? How else can I succeed?

For once, Cinder goes to find Thorne. Under normal circumstances, she'd wait for him to come to her - it's not like it ever takes him long. He's a man who likes listening to his own voice, and even with Scarlet and Wolf on board, they'd been too wrapped up in each other to give him the attention he apparently needed. There was Iko - but he'd come to find Cinder anyway.

She missed that. More than she'd ever really let herself realise, until she thought it had been too late. And there's a lot on her mind right now, but she doesn't really want to go through that again. There's a good chance they're all going to die, after all, and she'd rather not have it be with him not knowing that he's...important.

Cinder taps on his door with her human hand, soft. "It's me. You better be decent."

"I'm not!" He is.

At the moment, he's sitting in a chair, staring at, well... Nothing. There's nothing to stare at, not even fuzzy gray blobs. Thorne would take blobs over darkness. That's all it is, an eternal darkness that he can't seem to shake.

But a small smile flicks at the corners of his mouth when Cinder knocks at his door. They had found each other again, but he'd always known that they would. It was just his luck that Cress's kidnappers had led him straight to her.

Good luck, that is.

"Get decent," she instructs, and waits a couple of seconds before pushing the door open. She's mostly sure he is. He doesn't like getting hit by either of her arms, after all.

When she sees him sitting there staring at nothing, something happens to her face that she's sort of glad he's blind enough to miss. Her lips tug up at first, because she thinks that's the most still she's ever seen the man. But then the expression twists awkwardly - worry, concern, fear. She needs for Thorne to have his eyes. She just does. "You'd better not be moping. We've got things to do."

Thorne makes a face at her, almost hurt by the fact that she would even suggest that he's moping. He hasn't moped, not exactly. There was a brief moment where he wondered what he would do if his sight never came back, but the answer is always the same: keep going, get better.

Do what he can for Cinder.

"If you really need to know, I was thinking."

She raises her eyebrows, even though he can't see it. Old habits die hard. "Really."

He doesn't have to see it to know what she's doing. He can hear it. "I do that occasionally. But only occasionally, since I wouldn't want to make people feel inadequate next to me."
