Derek likes being alone. There's a reason why he always is. But it doesn't seem like there's really any point in telling her to go. She's not going to. He knows Maya enough to know that she's stubborn like that. And more to the point, she's not a wolf, not part of his pack. He can't actually order her to go.
He growls a sigh, more wolf than man, but her movements are obvious. He picks up his pace - slightly, because she doesn't get to order him around. Fine, whatever. He'll go exploring.
