It's down right difficult, obviously. It's easier to hang out with her as a cougar than it is when she's a girl, but Derek's always had little patience. No, not always, but that's someone who has been gone for a long time anyway.
When Maya finally disappears, it doesn't really matter to him if she's disappeared on him. That's basically what he's wanted. And yet, he keeps moving forward, keeps following the trail that she leaves for him. There's a thread of thought there that he should probably look into but that would require too much effort that he doesn't want to explore anyway.
He shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans, pretty much glowering with each step that he takes. It's not about her; it's because of himself.
