It doesn't help that, out of all of them, Derek is still the oldest. No longer a teenager, and yet he's surrounded by them. There's a clear separation here. He's caught in the middle of the adults who are not supernatural, and the teenagers who definitely are more overpowered than is good for them.

Sometimes, he wishes he was close to Peter, or that his psychotic uncle had stuck around at all.
All the time, he misses his mother, his alpha. He wonders if she would have known what to do with all of this.
Derek barely reacts. He looks human, but he's still a wolf. And he could still smell her nearby, still hear her touch the ground. He looks over his shoulder, half-amused.
