Honestly, Finnick has stopped trying to figure out things for years now. It happens, and he's left slightly bewildered, but he still goes for it. He feels... Bad for her, not that she'd appreciate it, but he does. And now she's alone.
"Because I don't have nearly as much pride as you to keep watching the people I love die," Finnick tells her, point blank. There's no softening of the blow there. "And because I was just a kid who had no idea what was going on. One day, I'm on the top of the world, the next I'm bottoming."
