[Honestly, Reyna has never particularly had the time to explore her sexuality. With Circe, it had been a non-issue, and she had been young. The things she had seen with Blackbeard also hadn't been the healthiest way to grow up.

New Rome, committing herself to this place and rising through the ranks until she became Praetor, it's all be sort of occupying. Sure, she was attracted to Jason. Who wouldn't be? He would make a good partner for her. They were both serious about their duties and keeping New Rome safe.

Still, she watches Heather closely, squinting a bit as the other girl threatens some jerk new recruit. He'll learn quickly, of course, but Heather... Well, Heather's never been a typical Roman.

Maybe it's the whole being a daughter of Venus aspect.] You think threatening to paddle him was the right course of action?

[ Who didn't want a piece of Jason? Heather could stare at his ass all day if Reyna wasn't so moony over him. A blue-haired boy from home frequently occupied her thoughts, but as a child of love, literally, she would never turn down any potential dating opportunities.

Most days she flopped between longing for the lax, sometimes chaotic atmosphere of her childhood home and demanding respect from those who underestimated her capabilities. And, okay, calling her Gladiator Barbie was pretty funny if it wasn't for the leer on that probatio's face. And maybe she wanted to put on a little show since Reyna is right there. It's in her nature to want to please others, even a little bit. ]

Well, uh, I don't think he'll try to pull that on me ever again, Praetor.

[Reyna crosses her arms over her chest, but there's nothing particularly intimidating about her stance at the moment. She seems rather relaxed. Or, well, as relaxed as Reyna can manage to be (which isn't really a lot, to be honest).

There's even the smallest hint of a smile tugging at her lips.] What did the probatio say to you?

[ That's a new thing! She likes the look of even slightly relaxed Reyna if only because she always seems like she never lets her own muscles relax ever. ]

I offered to help him out and he said it'd be a joke if he got defense lessons from Gladiator Barbie. So, yeah, totally threatened him. [ Heather tries to look modest about it, but there is no fighting the smug look on her face. ] Which ... isn't really my place to do so? I just can't stand around passively while some bro insults my femininity.

Gladiator Barbie? [Another thing about living on an island of women with a witch who turned men into guinea pigs? Reyna has no idea what a Barbie even is. Oops.

She likes that smug look, though. It says Heather has confidence without being overbearing with it. There's a beat as Reyna looks the other girl over. Not really checking her out, but... Maybe sort of checking her out. She is incredibly feminine in ways that Reyna definitely isn't, but it's not something that bothers her so much.] No, no. If any of the boys - or girls - decide that you're not up to Roman standards, you have every right to put them back in their place. [There's maybe a hint of pride in her tone.]

Cool. I mean, got it.

[ She takes a moment to check on the state of her lipstick in the reflection of her shield. Not a smudge out of place despite the big talk from earlier. That's not so surprising since she tends to look near impeccable even after war games. Looks matter to her, and though she tries not to let the opinions of others effect her performance in the Leigon, she can't help but preen after gaining some approval from Reyna. ]

Barbie, though. She's the most popular doll brand in the world, supposedly the female ideal? Mom loves that kind if thing. Barbie has been everything from a surfer to a dentist, so - hence the dumb nickname.

[Reyna isn't exactly unaware of her looks or unaware of the whole dressing up, looking pretty sort of thing. It just isn't much of a priority to her. Bellona doesn't care about looks, she cares about the fight. About duty and honor and winning. So there's maybe a bit of confusion and a lot of studying as she watches the way Heather checks to make sure everything still looks good. And maybe she's straightening her purple camp shirt a bit, smoothing down a few strands of hair that's come undone from her braid.

It's all unconscious movement.]

I've never heard of her. [How shocking.] The female ideal seems to be a woman taking up every profession under the sun?

[excusing]

[ Heather isn't keen to notice these small movements, even as she rolls the sleeves of her shirt up to avoid an awkward tan line.

It's a bit funny to her, a curious funny, how someone today can grow up with little knowledge of any recent pop culture. ]

Well, no! Barbie is a California blonde like me but she has an impossible body shape. Her wide range of professions is to show girls that they can do anything, which is pretty awesome.

[Ogling your fellow legionnaire members is probably not the best of things to do, Reyna. So she tries to not follow every movement that Heather makes as if she's something that the Praetor is trying to figure out. Even though that's exactly what she's doing.

Her lips purse at the explanation.] So the ideal is for women to look like... you? [Reyna hates that this conversation makes her feel like a bit of an idiot, but she's also genuinely curious.] I do like that aspect, though. About girls being able to do whatever they wanted.

[excusing]

[ Heather laughs, not at Reyna, but more at the idea that she's some kind of ideal. Se has always been confident about her own appearance but - perfection? Not at all.

She wrinkles her nose and attempts a serious expression. Because talking to Reyna about Barbie dolls probably isn't very appropriate. ] Um, yes, I agree completely. It's a compleat subject of discussion.

[Just going to be arching an eyebrow at you, missy. What's so funny? :V

Whatever. Reyna gets to decide what is appropriate and inappropriate at the moment, and she's honestly curious.] Too many people think that girls aren't capable of much other than looking good. [She says it as a girl who has faced that kind of problem before.]

Uh-huh. [ She shifts her weight to her other leg, the hand not on her shield on her hip. Heather's still in training gear after a long session, though hardly any sweat was broken. ]

I didn't think I'd really face it around here, but some people don't take the Venus thing seriously. [ She shrugs. That sort of thing she doesn't want to complain about very much, preferring to prove it in battle. ]

Even the legion has some idiots in it. [There's another small smile on her lips now. She'd like to say there weren't idiots around here, but there definitely is. Some people believe themselves to be better than others, even here. Mars above Apollo, Jupiter above them all, Pluto at the very bottom. Despite skills, their parents still defined them.

Reyna doesn't hold the Venus thing against Heather. She's seen her in action.] Some people will do what they can to make themselves feel like they are higher up on a food chain.

[excusing]

It's sooo silly, but I guess there's no way around that even though we're supposed to be working as one Legion.

[ The whole godly ranking system was stupid, in her opinion. No use fighting about strengths, especially when everyone has a different skill set. ] Good thing we have leaders like you, huh.

Idiots are still idiots, no matter where they are. It's a fact we have to deal with. Or, that they have to deal with when they are confronted. [Yeah, she's still thinking about the way Heather threatened that boy, and another smile flashes over her lips without meaning to.]

I am just doing what I can to watch out for everyone's best interests. [But she's hella pleased with the comment.]

[excusing]

Of course you are. It's good.

[ She smiles sweetly as usual, with a roll of her shoulders. An idea strikes her, partly because she lacks female companionship here, but really because Reyna is so closed off that she can't help but be curious about her. ]

I'm... gonna walk this off after I put my shield away. [ She shoots her a welcoming glance with an inquisitive tilt of her head before taking off to put away her things. ]

[Reyna takes a moment to think about that. She recognizes an invitation when she sees one. While she's generally pleasant with camp, and while she regards them as her family and responsibility, the truth of the matter is that she's not really close to anyone. Except for Jason. And unfortunately Octavian.

So she finally nods.] I'll walk with you. I could do with a little bit of leg stretching.

[excusing]

[ There is a pleased smile in her face when she turns away to put her things back accordingly. It is somewhat of a personal victory to have gotten this far, to have her accept an invitation. It's just like Heather to see how far she can push a person's boundaries, out of curiosity. The thing is that it only happens with people she's romantically interested in. Never mind that.

Heather jogs back, adjusting her rolled up sleeves again. ] Hey, let's walk?

[dutysexual]

[She waits, wondering what it is that's made her decide to do this. Loneliness? As much as she doesn't like to admit it, there's something definitely there in that regard. Reyna has been lonely for years, and it's no one's fault but her own.]

All right. [Reyna clasps her hands behind her back as she walks. What do people even talk about?] War games are coming up.

[excusing]

I know!

[ That puts a sparkle in Heather's eyes and an added bounce in her step. ] I'm totally excited for that, actually. Been making plans with the team.

[ Look! She's being an active Legionnaire! ]

[There's something oddly intriguing about that look Heather gets, the way she reacts to the war games. It's both something she expects from her legion, and also something she doesn't expect from a daughter of Venus.] Have you? Good. I'm looking forward to seeing you in action. [in three...

two...

one.]

All of you, that is. [Oops.]

[excusing]

[ Whoops. That's just further incentive for Heather to show off. That might get her in trouble but it may other further this little experiment forming in the back of her mind. ]

I hope we do a good job, anyway!

[ There's her never ending supply of optimism. ]

[There's a nod from Reyna now, that small smile still teasing across her lips, like it doesn't quite know if it should stay or not. Must be the effect of a Venus demigod, she thinks. Right?]

I have no doubts that you will. Particularly if you feel like you need to impress me now that I've said I'll be paying closer attention.

[ Around her back, Heather wraps her hand over forearm, lifting her eyebrows at the challenge presented. And then she smiles, because she knows what kind of power that simple expression has.

Since they're here and it's just the two of them, she may as well ask the question. ]

How do I go about really impressing you?

[Her smile is... nice. A little wild, she thinks, smug. Like she knows the power behind it, which is understandable, Reyna thinks.

She arches an eyebrow back. Nobody has asked that of her before.]

Now, if I gave the answers to that, you wouldn't have to work as hard to figure it out.
