It's sooo silly, but I guess there's no way around that even though we're supposed to be working as one Legion.

[ The whole godly ranking system was stupid, in her opinion. No use fighting about strengths, especially when everyone has a different skill set. ] Good thing we have leaders like you, huh.

Idiots are still idiots, no matter where they are. It's a fact we have to deal with. Or, that they have to deal with when they are confronted. [Yeah, she's still thinking about the way Heather threatened that boy, and another smile flashes over her lips without meaning to.]

I am just doing what I can to watch out for everyone's best interests. [But she's hella pleased with the comment.]

[excusing]

Of course you are. It's good.

[ She smiles sweetly as usual, with a roll of her shoulders. An idea strikes her, partly because she lacks female companionship here, but really because Reyna is so closed off that she can't help but be curious about her. ]

I'm... gonna walk this off after I put my shield away. [ She shoots her a welcoming glance with an inquisitive tilt of her head before taking off to put away her things. ]

[Reyna takes a moment to think about that. She recognizes an invitation when she sees one. While she's generally pleasant with camp, and while she regards them as her family and responsibility, the truth of the matter is that she's not really close to anyone. Except for Jason. And unfortunately Octavian.

So she finally nods.] I'll walk with you. I could do with a little bit of leg stretching.

[excusing]

[ There is a pleased smile in her face when she turns away to put her things back accordingly. It is somewhat of a personal victory to have gotten this far, to have her accept an invitation. It's just like Heather to see how far she can push a person's boundaries, out of curiosity. The thing is that it only happens with people she's romantically interested in. Never mind that.

Heather jogs back, adjusting her rolled up sleeves again. ] Hey, let's walk?

[dutysexual]

[She waits, wondering what it is that's made her decide to do this. Loneliness? As much as she doesn't like to admit it, there's something definitely there in that regard. Reyna has been lonely for years, and it's no one's fault but her own.]

All right. [Reyna clasps her hands behind her back as she walks. What do people even talk about?] War games are coming up.

[excusing]

I know!

[ That puts a sparkle in Heather's eyes and an added bounce in her step. ] I'm totally excited for that, actually. Been making plans with the team.

[ Look! She's being an active Legionnaire! ]

[dutysexual]

[There's something oddly intriguing about that look Heather gets, the way she reacts to the war games. It's both something she expects from her legion, and also something she doesn't expect from a daughter of Venus.] Have you? Good. I'm looking forward to seeing you in action. [in three...

two...

one.]

All of you, that is. [Oops.]

[excusing]

[ Whoops. That's just further incentive for Heather to show off. That might get her in trouble but it may other further this little experiment forming in the back of her mind. ]

I hope we do a good job, anyway!

[ There's her never ending supply of optimism. ]

[There's a nod from Reyna now, that small smile still teasing across her lips, like it doesn't quite know if it should stay or not. Must be the effect of a Venus demigod, she thinks. Right?]

I have no doubts that you will. Particularly if you feel like you need to impress me now that I've said I'll be paying closer attention.

[excusing]

[ Around her back, Heather wraps her hand over forearm, lifting her eyebrows at the challenge presented. And then she smiles, because she knows what kind of power that simple expression has.

Since they're here and it's just the two of them, she may as well ask the question. ]

How do I go about really impressing you?

[dutysexual]

[Her smile is... nice. A little wild, she thinks, smug. Like she knows the power behind it, which is understandable, Reyna thinks.

She arches an eyebrow back. Nobody has asked that of her before.]

Now, if I gave the answers to that, you wouldn't have to work as hard to figure it out.

[Is she flirting? Is this flirting???]

[excusing]

[ Under normal circumstances, she might give a friend or flirt subject a little nudge but she keeps her distance, still, because it's more interesting to her. She doesn't want to push Reyna too far too soon. What does Heather want, anyway? Rare friendly conversation is one thing, but it also seems like she's opening it up to other things.

Perhaps she's just reading into it -- but, wait. As a child of a Venus, she should have better intuition. Go with the gut. Totally flirting. ]

You want me to work for it, if I'm hearing you correctly. I can do that.

[dutysexual]

[Reyna pauses, glancing at Heather from the corner of her eye. There's a part of her that feels uncomfortable. Not because Heather is another girl or because maybe, just maybe, she feels a slight attraction here. It's because flirting is really out of her realm of expertise, and Reyna doesn't like not knowing where her footing is.]

Exactly. Anything earned too easily isn't really worth keeping at that point.

[excusing]

[ For all her obliviousness, Heather is acutely aware that she is a lot better at this than most people. She was blessed with the ability to pick up easily on emotions, on body language and changes in voice. What good it did her here, though, having spent her first year pining over a boy from home. That life is behind her.

Anyway, there are new, interesting people to catch her attention. ]

I'm kind of unorthodox sometimes.

[dutysexual]

I've been noticing. [Not much, Reyna thinks. But now that she has noticed Heather, previous times pop up into her head. Other games before, training. Dining. It's strange, and a little awkward, and it makes Reyna curious. Her lips purse a bit. Curiosity is a terrible thing, even at the best of times.]

Unorthodox methods can be a double-edged sword. There is an order to follow here in the legion. [Her hands clasp behind her back as they walk, chin tilting up. Despite her words, there's a slight teasing tone.] Of course, unless you act outside of the box, you're still nothing more than a drone. Differences get noticed.

[excusing]

[ The fact that she does not 100% hate her for being that way is simply astonishing. Heather lifts her eyebrows, swallowing a small laugh. ]

Damn. Like, you're telling me to play by rules but not? [ Okay, she has to laugh, just a little bit. ] That's what people call mixed signals in the dating world.

[dutysexual]

[Reyna hates very few people. The list includes Octavian at the moment, and that's pretty much about it. Even then, she really just wants to punch him in the face until he bleeds.]

Some rules were meant to be bent a little to do what's best. [A good life philosophy to live by. And then Reyna pauses. Whoa, whoa.] It's... I'm not giving mixed signals.

[excusing]

[ Heather would sit on him while Reyna punches him, if she asked. Watching her beat him to a pulp would be satisfying enough for her, really.

She can't help but dissolve into giggles, covering her mouth with the back of her hand. ]

Noo! That was me teasing you, Reyna.

[dutysexual]

[there's a faint blush that crawls up her neck and settles on her cheeks but she absolutely, positively ignores it as though it doesn't exist. A frown twitches at the corners of her mouth.]

It's been so long since anyone's dared to tease me. [Hylla was the last, she thinks. Nobody messes with Reyna. But maybe that's what makes Heather different, makes her outside of the box.]

[excusing]

[ Along the way, Heather picks up the pace, skipping forward until Reyna speaks again and she turns to face her, just in time to see the redness creep over her cheeks. ] Gods, really? There's no harm in it, not in mine, anyway.

[ She waggles her fingers, palms out in a defenseless gesture. ] Hope that's okay.

[dutysexual]

[No harm in it. Yes, Reyna agrees. It's not malicious in any sense. In fact, the way Heather teases makes her feel like she almost belongs. Which is silly. Reyna knows she belongs here, with her fellow Romans, watching out for them all. But that sort of position keeps her removed.]

It's fine. [Another rare smile, becoming more common by the moment.] It's kind of nice, actually.

[excusing]

[ And that is a whole lot of pressure for a teenage girl. There should be a dose of normalcy for anyone, even living under these circumstances. It's why Heather often acts the way she does, occasionally getting herself into trouble because she misses how that feels. ]

You maybe should smile more. [ She tries to make that sound like a compliment, as opposed to criticism, or, worse, a command. ] It's good on you.

[dutysexual]

I don't have a lot of reasons to smile. [It's both easy enough to confess, and hard at the same time. But she trusts that Heather isn't going to talk about her once this conversation is over.]

You think so? [Compliments are also something that never happens often with Reyna these days.]

[excusing]

I get that the job's not easy. But you have everyone's respect now, so. You know, it's good to let your hair down, or whatever.

[ Master of letting one's hair down, this one is. She would not mind at all, being of assistance, only if asked. ] This's a good start, anyway. [ Meaning the walk, though she might add that the flirting part was good too. ]
