His eyebrows raise, and there's still that amused quirk to his mouth. She's pretty, but that isn't what he's really here for. It's suggestive, regardless of what she's referring to. If nothing else, she'll be a fun challenge if they end up not being compatible. "That's a whole other kind of dance, Kirk."

She moves, and he mirrors her. He tosses his water bottle to the side and lifts his weapon. "There are no boys and girls here, just pilots."

It's not really what she's here for, either. She enjoys the shit-talking, though, whether it can be seen as flirting or otherwise. For a moment, she's hit with a wave of nostalgia for Spock and his deadpan delivery. She still carries him around in her head, obviously, but it's not quite the same. "Man, I am so not getting into metaphors with you, here."

She rolls her neck, cracking it as he lifts his weapon. "Come on, let's do this." And she doesn't bother waiting for a response, stepping back in and sweeping her stick towards him from a high angle. She's sure there's a technical name for these things, but fucked if she knows what it is.

Raleigh lifts his own weapon in a block, pushing power behind it when she hits down so that he's more on the offensive than defensive. He's not here to test her; he's testing them. The way they move together, around each other. The effects of their attacks against each other.

The smirk drops from his lips pretty quickly, replaced by a more intense look. This is serious. Jim Kirk is serious. Which is good. None of these other potentials were too serious for him.

He takes a step back, swinging his stick in an arc toward her side.

He pushes back with his defence; it's aggressive, and she likes it already.

There's something different about the way he moves, though, even as she blocks his return strike. Like he's not trying to beat her, but figure her out. Her skin prickles, a little uncomfortable. Maybe that's the whole point of the exercise, but Jim would prefer to think that you can't learn everything there is to know about her from hitting her with a stick.

She's supposed to have moved beyond that.

Jim steps in closer, pushing him harder, mostly just to see what he'll do to respond. She prefers close-quarters combat; if the stick exists as an extension of herself, it's because she likes throwing her everything into a fight.

Raleigh doesn't prefer close-quarters, but he can work with it. Fighting is like breathing, even if it's been years. Even if he's slightly out of shape. She's pushing harder than the others have, his breathing kicked up a notch, his pulse beginning to race.

She likes being personal as soon as she can. That's the first thing he realizes about Jim. It doesn't matter what she's doing. But that's an easy thing to read immediately.

Both hands on his weapon, he gives a powerful shove, wood smacking against wood as he hopes to throw her away from him.

For someone who's been out of the field for five years, he's in good shape. She's in better shape, of course, but it's still only recently that the excess booze and laziness have taken a back seat in the face of her new responsibilities. They are, it turns out, pretty evenly matched.

She likes getting up in other people's personal space - literally and figuratively - as soon as possible. Likes to throw them off balance as soon as she can. She's less revealing about herself, but fuck, that's what the drift is for. This part is the fight, purely physical; it's like sex, and Jim has always excelled in both fields.

He shoves at her, and she grins. Most people would defend against that, but Jim is a risk taker. She absorbs the blow and rolls with it, taking the point that comes with it in the hopes that she can gain one in return by doing the unexpected, her weapon coming at him from below this time.
