That's how death works. [If she focuses on it too hard, she feels Juno's loss over and over. Her light, her center, her everything.

She finds herself nodding absently.] It was my name, my only name.

[greatone]

I'm familiar.

[ she stares at her and offers a sort of grim smile of understanding ]

I have two. Sword of the Jedi and Yun-Harla, the Trickster. [ she snorts, full of dark humor ] Starkiller has a way better ring to it.

[darksiding]

Those are titles, not names. They don't define your entire existence. [Sword of the Jedi is nice, though. Better than Starkiller.] I'm not even sure why he called me that.

[greatone]

[ Jaina actually laughs at that ] You'd be surprised. Something about self-fulfilling prophecies I guess.

Well, you were an assassin, weren't you? [ tact: thy name is not Jaina ]

[darksiding]

[There's a pause before Galen smiles in return.] There are worse things to become, in that case. I like it, though. Sword of the Jedi.

[There's not even a flicker of regret when she nods.] Basically. But I wasn't always an assassin. I had to be trained. I had to not die.

[greatone]

It's growing on me.

[ Jaina sends her an amused expression ] Generally speaking, most employers want their assassins alive before they hire them.

[darksiding]

Generally speaking, most employers are actually employers and not a Sith Lord who has begun to raise a child in secret so they could be their personal killing machine.

[greatone]

Point taken.

[ she doesn't apologize for Vader- it's not her fault. And condolences won't magic away Galen's childhood. ]

So do you intend to join up with the Alliance? [ payback. Now that's something Jaina can understand ]

[darksiding]

[Not that Galen particularly wants apologies. It is what it is, and so is she.]

I don't know. I don't even know what I want, except maybe to get better as a Jedi. [What are goals and ambitions in life, oops.]

[greatone]

I guess that depends on what you mean by "better".

[darksiding]

[Her lips purse as she thinks that over.] Let's put it this way: I can only go up at this point.

[greatone]

Best place to start. Luke's a good teacher, and there are other Masters here who're...less than orthodox, if that's what you're after.

[darksiding]

[There's a minute twitching of her lips at that. She supposes that Jaina owes her uncle a little loyalty, and it's not like Luke is particularly terrible, but they don't mesh. He's no Kota.] I am pretty sure all Skywalker wants out of me is the chance to learn more about his father, but I'm not exactly sure he'd want to hear the truth from me. [A beat.] Durron's interesting, though.

[greatone]

[ if she was drinking something, she would have choked on it ]

You don't waste anytime jumping into controversy, do you?

[darksiding]

[Her eyebrows shoot up.]

My existence is a controversy already, don't you think?

[greatone]

I guess. But Durron's. [ well, he's Durron. Jaina sighs, she understands his appeal to someone like Galen, warped as it is. ] Just think about taking Luke up on his offer first. Or Mara. Or Saba.

[darksiding]

Are you also going to lecture me about any associations with the terrible Kyp Durron, too? Because I'm still undecided about whether that makes me want to seek him out more or not. [There's a hint of amusement in her voice.] I'll think about it, but honestly, not even Durron is close to understanding what I know about the Force.

[greatone]

[ she laughs at that, stretching out her legs ] Not unless I want to be a raging hypocrite- he's my former Master.

[ that gets an interested look from Jaina ] Vader have a theory course in his curriculum?

[darksiding]

From what I remember of my studies, Jedi are raging hypocrites. [Fact or Vader!fact? She isn't sure anymore.

Galen leans forward, placing her elbows on her knees.] Not exactly, but I spent my entire life in the dark side of the Force. Feeding off my hate and anger and fear, and I'm not going to say that being on the other side is easy, but I don't see myself feeling the urge to kill for fun. [She glances at Jaina.] I don't fear what the dark side has to hold.

[greatone]

[ Jaina shrugs ] Jedi are regular people. And regular people are hypocrites occasionally. [ Force, she hopes Galen isn't going to spew some moral obligatory fodder about how being a Jedi means being a symbol of light and anchor for morality...she already had brunch with Jacen today ]

[ she frowns at that ] Maybe it's not about fear of the dark side. It's the idea of being unchecked and unguarded. You lose perspective that way. [ Jaina shrugs, assuming that if Galen knows about Anakin, she knows something of Hapes ] I don't regret it. And I'd use it if it's the only available option to seeing the means to an end. But it's not the complete answer to things, either.

[darksiding]

It'd be nice if some of them remembered that every now and then. [Not that her overall experience has led her to believe that they are the same Order that the Emperor and Darth Vader had destroyed, but some of them... Some of them made her roll her eyes.

Morality doesn't really have much place in Galen's life, all things considered.]

Why should the dark side leave you more unchecked and unguarded? [A beat.] I can understand what you mean, but it's all part of the Force. It's what you do with it, how you use it, who you are that dictates where you fall on this imaginary line. [She glances at Jaina, thinking that over.] Good. Don't regret it. You shouldn't have to.

[greatone]

Most of us are aware, trust me. [ not said bitterly at all, nope. ]

Because all too often it's an excuse. And I realize that most of its influence stems from the Jedi's own will, but. Sometimes that will is weak. Sometimes pain turns into something worse, and the Dark side enables that.

At the time it felt right. [ the statement is cagey, and a frown makes its way to her face ]

[darksiding]

[Galen clasps her hands together, sitting perfectly still as she stares out at one of the ships.] Sometimes pain is a natural condition. Perhaps not everyone is cut out to be a Jedi, to use the Force as it should be used. [It sounds harsh, but she says it softly. It's not like anyone is right or wrong here.]

Does it feel right now?

[greatone]

And how do you think it should be used? [ the question is cagey. This is a former Jedi assassin here ]

Does it matter. [ her tone indicates that no, it doesn't. ]

[darksiding]

As part of yourself. It's not a tool for us to use anymore than we're a tool for it. That's something I've had to learn the hard way. I'm tired of using and being used.

[She gives a small smile.] I don't know, it might.
