[At the sound of approval, her hand slides over his face, into his hair, brushing her fingers through it. There's something satisfying about messing up the perfect way it was hanging.

She leans in, and she can't tell if it's because she wants to or because he wants her to, but her lips hover over his.] No, but I can carry a few. That's what I'm here for, right?

[ She's coming along nicely.

Jacen smiles, opening his eyes and staring straight into hers with an intensity reminiscent of mad men. But he's not mad. And perhaps that's worse. ]

I have so much to teach you. [ his words have a faraway quality to them, as if he's mapping out some complicated future, as if he's planning out the galaxy.

When he leans forward again, the kiss isn't gentle. He's not Anakin, and while he'll indulge her desire for that intimacy, she needs to learn the distinction. Caedus claims her mouth hungrily, the hand on her cheek wrapping around to the back of her head to push her forward ]

[Tahiri believes that Caedus can plan out the galaxy. There are so many things about him that she doesn't understand, that she hates, that makes her disgusted, but she wholeheartedly believes he could plan out the galaxy.

And that terrifies her.

That attracts her.

It makes her despise him.

So when he kisses her, she tastes his hunger and absorbs it, lets it feed her anger as her finger clench in his hair. He is not Anakin and will never be Anakin. Her eyes screw shut as she kisses him harder, mouth crashing against his.]

[ he senses her anger and hatred, and it causes a flare of satisfaction within him. Caedus doesn't bother to hide it from her, letting her know that her ire, her fear, is what he's been after all along.

He pulls away from her, still holding the back of her head as he inhales her exhales, measuring his breaths ]

Are you here of your own volition, Tahiri?

[There's something about that satisfaction that she wants to latch onto, to wrap herself in it. Because when she hates him, she also needs his approval, needs him to want to help her with Anakin.

Needs him in a sick way.

There's a quiet murmur of disappointment when he pulls away, to which she grits her teeth.]

Yes.

[ he nods, and kisses her again- this one is chaste, almost loving if either of them were prone to such saccharine delusions.

Caedus pulls back and away, standing from the bed. Still naked from the night before, he levitates his robe towards him and shrugs it on. As Caedus meticulously ties the knot around his waist, he speaks to her without looking up from the menial task ]

I need you to meet with Pellaeon.

[Tahiri bites back a sigh, a weight lifting off her chest when he's finally out of her space, when she doesn't have to continue breathing him in. Even then, she watches him, her gaze drifting over the lines of his body that she's come to know better than she should have.

What would Anakin think of her? What would anyone else think of this, of them?

Nothing, because they're nothing, and they must be nothing.

She doesn't make a move to get dressed yet.] What do you need me to do?

He's been resisting my requests for Imperial aid. [ he sounds calm and dignified, but the frustration is clear through the Force ]

I thought sending a friendly face may persuade him. [ Caedus smiles ] I imagine changing an old man's mind won't prove too difficult for my apprentice, will it?

[Tahiri slides off the bed then, and picks her clothes off from the floor. What she needs is a shower, but she can do that on the way to Pellaeon. So she slips her clothes on slowly, letting his frustration wash over her, ground her.]

It shouldn't. [She agrees softly, running her fingers through her hair.] I will secure the aid we need.

[ Caedus turns to look at her finally, taking a few steps over to where she stands. He towers over her, and not for the first time he marvels at just how small the girl who had ensnared his brother so is ]

I anticipate nothing but success.

[ and, because he knows this way is easiest, and most efficient and perhaps even a little indulgent on his part, he trails his fingers under her chin, tilting her face up to his ]

It is beyond valuable to have someone I can trust.

[Tahiri looks back up at Caedus, not wanting to seem weak or small in some way, but it's hard to not feel that way with him. To feel powerless in comparison.

His skin is warm, fingers calloused, and she hates that she likes the way they feel as he tilts her chin up.]

You have no reason to doubt me, master. [A beat.] But I want to see Anakin.

[ the request doesn't surprise him, but Caedus takes his time in answering, in making it seem like he's unsure of what his reply will be. If Tahiri is to be his successor- and, by extension, the one chosen to strike him down- he needs to know that she can master disappointment. The unknown. Anxiety. The galaxy has much to offer in all of those areas. ]

Your past attempts at changing Myrkr have failed, Tahiri. What is going to make this one special?

[ the first lesson for any apprentice: how do you learn from inadequacy?]

[A visible tremble runs through her, but not fear or disappointment. Anger. He's been resisting her requests more and more lately, this master of hers. Taking her away from the one thing even worth living for anymore. The one, solitary need she has in her life.

Her lips part, but she doesn't answer immediately. She has to think, she has to be clever, because that's what Caedus wants from her. He wants her to be more, and she wants to be his apprentice.

It's the only way to have Anakin again.] The knowledge of my past attempts. Knowledge is earned, isn't it? How else can I succeed?

[ he shakes his head ]

I'm sure you've heard the expression regarding insanity?

[She grits her teeth.]

I want to help you, Caedus, but you promised to help me in return. Please save your lectures.

[ he laughs, and it's biting ]

Oh, Tahiri. [ his hand falls to her neck, in a move that could either be a caress or a precursor to strangulation ] You don't want to help me. You want to help yourself. Don't deny your own truth.

[paidforthem]

[She smiles back at him, all sharp edges and dark looks.] Does it matter what reason I'm here if I'm committed? Regardless of my reasons, I'm here to help you. [Tahiri leans in.] We need each other.

[deepthinkythoughts]

[ his fingers dig into the skin of her neck, pressing hard enough to form bruises if he maintains the grip ]

You mistake my interest in you for affection. [ no, perhaps that's not right: ] Dependency.

[ he leans forward, his lips hovering over hers as he whispers ]

Do not delude yourself, my apprentice. You are here to satisfy a curiosity of mine. [ he presses harder ] I can end my curiosity any time I choose.

[She grits her teeth, against his touch, against his words. Both of them bruise her.

Tahiri glares back at her master, and she knows she's pushing in all the wrong ways, but she is not... She is not going to be seen as weak to him, even if she is.]
