What else about what? [Honestly, who doesn't know about Luke? She gets bombarded with how wonderful the Jedi Master is at every turn.]

I don't know. Everything. If you haven't realized by now, things have changed since you were around.

[darksiding]

It was a little obvious, considering there's no longer an Empire. [She manages to find that spot on the floor that Jaina was studying.] I don't know. It wasn't like I was involved with the world even then. Everything was my master, and then everything was... [Everything was Juno.]

I like that there are Jedi now. I like that I didn't wipe them all out.

Not enough, but it's something I guess.

[ she looks at her. She knows the answer to the question already but it's the only way she knows how to approach the subject ]

Your Master was Vader?

[darksiding]

[Galen knows that Jaina already knows the answer to this. Most people in the Order did by now, but she nods anyway.]

Him, and the Emperor by extension. But I only met him the one time.

[greatone]

[ she wants to ask what Vader was like, but for some reason that feels disrespectful to ask so soon after finding out about Bail. Instead she leans against her fighter, arms cross casually over her stomach ]

I guess that makes two of us. If we're counting clones. [ a beat ] Emperor clones, that is.

[ she rolls her shoulders, getting the kinks from the hours of mechanical work out of her muscles ]

So what was it that made you stay with Vader? Power? Blood lust? Rewarding severance package?

[darksiding]

[A slight smile tugs at her lips at the clone comment, and she thinks about something that Kota told her.] You know, it was believed that Jedi couldn't be cloned at all. But if anyone was going to continue on, it would be that man.

[Her lips part, and then she pauses. Loyalty is the first thing she can come up with.] He... was the only thing that I knew. [Starkiller, not Galen. No parents, but Vader and PROXY.] I was young when he killed my father, I didn't even remember it until... later. And he took me, he raised me. If you can call torturing a child and shaping them into your personal killing machine "raising". [She says it flatly though, with barely any emotion.]

[greatone]

[ okay she is way too sore to still be standing, so Jaina takes a seat next to Galen. Close enough not to offend, far enough away to not intrude on her personal space. Some lessons from Leia stuck. ]

Sounds like he had you pretty wound up. [ understatement of the year. She frowns, remembering her time with Ta'a Chume on Hapes. ] So what woke you up?

[darksiding]

[She glances at Jaina when she takes a seat, but doesn't say anything. It doesn't bother her.] I spent my entire life wanting to make him proud, to be worthy of being his apprentice. You don't get a lot of goals when you're raised that way.

[A hand comes to her chest.] Well, the lightsaber through the chest was a nice jolt. But mostly... Mostly it was my pilot, Juno.

[greatone]

[ Jaina sends her a side glance.]

Friend of yours?

[darksiding]

Yeah. [And then:] No, Juno was so much more than that. She was... [There's a sigh because this is getting personal, and she doesn't know Jaina, but the pain of losing the one person who cared hurts.] Everything.

[greatone]

[ Jaina clears her throat, not expecting someone to be so open about a weakness like that. Around here, people kept their loved ones close to the chest. Jaina's not sure why, but it's almost...quaint? Refreshing? Some sort of contrived phrase like that.

After a few minutes of indecision, she nods ]

I had someone like that. Maybe not in the same way, but he was...[ she frowns ] He was the light we all needed.

[ She doesn't know what she says it, but it's not like bringing up Anakin is going to hurt him. ]

[darksiding]

[The thing is, Galen doesn't see it as a weakness. Not anymore. There's no Juno to be used against her. Galen has more subtle weaknesses than a brilliant woman long dead.]

Your brother. [She glances at Jaina from the corner of her eye.] I looked it up. I'm sorry.

[greatone]

[ Jaina turns to her with a skeptical look ]

Seems like you've done your homework.

[darksiding]

It's always a good idea to know who you're dealing with before you beat your head into a wall for nothing. [She winces.] It sounds tactless, I know.

[greatone]

I can handle tactless. [ she's a master in tactless.

She absently kicks her foot at the ground, turning her gaze to her fighter ]

I'm guessing there's a reason Juno's not here with you.

[darksiding]

She's dead. [Simple, clean, but there's still a hollow ache in Galen's chest when she says it. She should be raging, she supposes, falling back into old habits, forget the Jedi. But she can't. That's not who she is anymore.] That's what the records say, that her and Kota died like heroes. They should have been here, though. If anyone deserved to see freedom from the Empire, it was those two.

[Was it her fault for not being there? She should have been there, and she shouldn't be here. They should have died together, the three of them or not at all.]

[greatone]

Sorry. [ it actually sounds genuine ]

But if they were with the Rebellion, they knew it would have succeeded. I mean, to go against a force that outgunned- you'd have to be running on nothing but pure conviction.

[darksiding]

They knew they wanted to succeed. I think they had a lot of hopes, and they fought hard. We knew that if we didn't, there would be no freedom. [A slight smile tugs at her lips.] There'd be no this. I think that fighting for it without knowing what the outcome would be was better for them than to live in misery. [Her hands clench.] They still deserve to be here.

[greatone]

Lots of people deserve to be here. [ she is still looking at the fighter, but her gaze is miles away ] And they're not.

But we are.

[ she frowns ]

I heard they called you Starkiller.

[darksiding]

That's how death works. [If she focuses on it too hard, she feels Juno's loss over and over. Her light, her center, her everything.

She finds herself nodding absently.] It was my name, my only name.

[greatone]

I'm familiar.

[ she stares at her and offers a sort of grim smile of understanding ]

I have two. Sword of the Jedi and Yun-Harla, the Trickster. [ she snorts, full of dark humor ] Starkiller has a way better ring to it.

[darksiding]

Those are titles, not names. They don't define your entire existence. [Sword of the Jedi is nice, though. Better than Starkiller.] I'm not even sure why he called me that.

[greatone]

[ Jaina actually laughs at that ] You'd be surprised. Something about self-fulfilling prophecies I guess.

Well, you were an assassin, weren't you? [ tact: thy name is not Jaina ]

[darksiding]

[There's a pause before Galen smiles in return.] There are worse things to become, in that case. I like it, though. Sword of the Jedi.

[There's not even a flicker of regret when she nods.] Basically. But I wasn't always an assassin. I had to be trained. I had to not die.
